I Have Wide Syndrome…

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

That’s what I personally call my issue also known as having wide width feet. Recently during my spring cleaning of my walk-in closet my mother put to my attention that I didn’t have many shoes, which she is so correct. Ever since I was young I remember the difficulty to find nice shoes that looked cute and actually fit my feet. When I was in elementary the only footwear I wore was sneakers, then when I reached into middle school I had to get shoes because wearing sneakers was not part of the uniform. I believe the shoes that held my down for those two years were hush puppies. Anyway high school was sort of a blur I believe sneakers, sneakers, Diesels, Diesels; yup that’s about right I usually wore one shoe a for the whole school year. Sad, I know but when stores don’t carry a variety of shoes that are wide width finding comfortable shoes the selection is scarce.

However times have changed since high school and Payless have become the go to place for me to find trendy shoes that are in wide width and also at great prices. Here are some of my favorite selections from the website, the stores have more selections though.
Anyway another place that have inexpensive shoes is the Lane Bryant store, I know this is a plus-size store however many plus-size women don’t have narrow feet.

Well hopefully now that the weather is getting bearable and warm I will have to invest in some of these shoes and many more. I do not do online-shopping especially for shoes because of my wide width feet condition so if anyone know of other sites that carry wide width please be so helpful and leave me a comment.

Trashed Fashion

Coco Chanel once said,

I am against fashion that doesn′t last. I cannot accept that you throw your clothes away just because it’s spring.

“I’m not a plastic bag”

I always look forward to receiving my WhoeWhatWear emails every weekday morning, especally when they are profiling handbags.

I have to admit, after seeing it around so much, I′m starting to get interested in the “I’m not a plastic bag” by Anya Hindmarch. I have a kitchen cabinet full of plastic bags I have toted home from stores (WHY must they double bag everything?) and would love a reusable, fabric alternative. Especially one that is also used by supermodels.

It will be interesting to see if the bag takes off in the US as much as it has everywhere else. I’m keeping an eye out.

More info from The Bag Snob.

Update: I just read via Fashionista that this bag will also be sold at Whole Foods starting June 20th.

NY designers are not really considered “designers”

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

In the end, New York Fashion Week jumped to the front of the calendar, a position it still maintains, partially to stop the whining. Still, designers such as Marc Jacobs, arguably the most influential US designer working today - and not, incidentally, represented in this exhibition - are often called stylistes in French, as opposed to createurs; a styliste is someone who is great
at creating a look, but not necessarily an original garment.

This is a paragraph from the Financial Times article, “Playing To The Gallery” by Vanessa Friedman. Ummm, New York designers are considered as stylist instead of createurs , that’s funny but somewhat true. In my case the reason I love NY fashion week is that it’s great to see how designers edit down their pieces for shows. However considering NY designers not “designers″ is pretty harsh. The best aspiration realistically for me is being in New York seeing how people put certain pieces together. Being in New York I get inspired by the people in the streets and my classroom to how to be creative when it comes to chosing an outfit from my own closet. However there are designers such as Zac Posen, Moniquer Lhuillier, Carmen Marc Volvo that make exquite dresses and growns that are cut wonderful on the body. But whatever even if it’s creating a look or designing a couture dress it’s still fashion and there are designers still behind their product.

Hayden-Harnett’s Spring Ahead Annual Sample Sale

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

A few days ago I received an email informing me about the Hayden-Harnett’s Sample Sale from Toni (a designer for the label). So I check their online site which is aslo featuring the sale from today April 10 thru thursday April 12. Today I went to their showroom on 330 West 38th in NYC and was really delighted by the quality of fabrics and materials HH used for the bags. That was my main focus of going to the sample sale just to go through the hangbags and there were many:

The pic above was my favorite bags at the showroom the leather was extremely soft and smooth and the bag was big enough to carry a few of my school books. So please if any of you don′t live in the tristate area you can check out the sample sale online or head down to 330 w. 38th ste. 503 (btw 8th and 9th avenue). It is really best to feel the bags up close.

Thanks again Toni.
