Marc Jacobs Kate Lock Hobo

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Marc Jacobs is doing something quirky and cool with his spring bag collection and we are loving it! Last night I posted on our Twitter and Facebook asking people what handbag they have passed up recently and regret it. While I could think of a few, I had this nagging image in the back of my mind, of a totally off-the-wall Marc Jacobs bag that somehow is speaking to me.

Do you remember the Marc Jacobs Fluorescent Tweed Bag? It is completely tacky, over-done, and lovely. Yes, I said lovely. Why am I feeling so drawn to this crazy mish-mash of tweed, patent leather, and colorful baubbles? I don’t know. But I adore that bag.

So when I attempt to ground myself and realize that it is possible that buying a super trendy bag is not the way to go, I have to find a replacement. And I found one. I found nearly the same price in a black leather bag from Marc Jacobs. The Marc Jacobs Kate Lock Hobo has a little bit of sass with the zipper and stud detail on the sides. Like the Tweed Bag, and many bags from his spring collection, there is a signature lock detail at the front of the bag. Otherwise this is a simple hobo, with a long adjustable leather strap and slouchy body.

I dig where Marc Jacobs took his spring line. It ventures from downright crazy to slightly colorful to over-detailed to just right. There has to be a bag in there somewhere for you. Buy the Kate Lock Hobo via Bergdorf Goodman for $950.

And if you are me, for some odd absurd reason, the only bag still calling my name is the Fluorescent Tweed Bag. Tomatoes in my face? If you are like me, buy the Fluorescent Tweed Bag at Net a Porter for $995.

Marc Jacobs Robert Jennifer Shoulder Bag

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Marc Jacobs Robert Jennifer Shoulder BagI’ve been sitting on this bag for a while now, which is odd for me. Usually, when I decide that I want and/or need to write about something, I do it immediately. The screen shot of the bag sits on my desktop for a day, at most. Generally, I feel like my first impression is the one I should go with and that it’s the one that most of you guys will identify with (if not always agree). But when it comes to the Marc Jacobs Robert Jennifer Shoulder Bag, I just can’t decide which way is up. I’m sure I HAD a first impression of it, but I don’t remember what it was, and even if I did, I’m not sure it’d be particularly relevant. This bag is making me wishy-washy in the extreme it shows great attention to detail, but I’m not sure the overall effect is something that I can get on board with. I do, however, like the shape and size - perfect for that flap bag trend I keep mentioning - and I think it’s a great example of how a chain strap doesn’t have to be a Chanel ripoff. And I like the IDEA of the multicolored woven leather, but it just seems a little too busy and the colors a little too autumnal for a spring bag. With all the colors, the tassels, the woven chain…it’s a little too much all at once. I give it a passing grade overall, but just barely. Buy through eLuxury for $1995.

Marc Jacobs Jeweled Stam Satchel

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Marc Jacobs Jeweled Stam Satchel As many of you who read my Fashion Week posts know, I’m a major Marc Jacobs apologist. In my eyes, he can do almost no wrong and his main personal export is fabulousness. So it’s only natural that my huge personal bias towards His Excellency may be clouding my vision when I look at the Marc Jacobs Jeweled Stam Satchel. Because I was doubtful of it at first, but I seem to have somehow convinced myself that it is really fantastic, in a bling-tastic, bedazzled, Liberace sort of way. The bag’s quilts are covered in zillions of light blue Swarovski crystals against a backdrop of dark blue suede (may this be the first suede Stam?) with the traditional gold chain for even more shine. I think we all know that MJ is only continuing to make new versions of the Stam to capitalize on its former status as an It-Bag, but my 2005 black leather version is still one of my favorite bags, so I can’t hate on those that continue to snap them up. This particular wild-n-sparkly version would have to be for a very specific, very bold customer however, given its assumed ability to completely overpower anything else you’re wearing. I give Beyonce two weeks before we see paparazzi photos of her carrying it. Do your thing, girl. Buy through eLuxury for $2350.

Fashion Week 2009 - Marc Jacobs Handbags

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Marc Jacobs Handbags 2009 Fashion Week can be a hard for us handbag lovers. Because of the placement of photographers at the end of the runway, it’s often difficult to get a halfway decent look at the bags we might be seeing in stores at the end of the summer. Thankfully, though, we’ve rounded up some bag pictures from the Marc Jacobs show after the jump.

So what do we have here? We have a few things that mirrored Jacobs’ show - neon, patterns, a slightly punk, slightly glam 80s feel. And we also have a few things that mirror MJ bags from previous seasons - quilting and chains. The chains are the primary straps in most of these flap shoulder bags, which is a bit of a departure from the Stam’s chain accent. Although the pictures aren’t super helpful, many of these bags also appear to be small-to-medium-sized shoulder bags, sometimes that Jacobs hasn’t focused on in recent collections. Many also include exotic skins, studs, and other embellishment that make these some of the most elaborate bags I’ve seen from his normally-rather-subdued signature collection. See for yourself below.

Fashion Week 2009: Marc Jacobs Ready to Wear

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Marc Jacobs at his Fall 2009 show I worship at the altar of Marc Jacobs. Unabashedly. I am unashamed to think that he is possibly the greatest fashion mind of our generation and admit that I’d wear pretty much anything he put his stamp of approval upon. I love him as a character - I love all the fabulous younger men he dates, all the crazy things he does to his hair, and the fact that he has taken to wearing man-skirts and combat boots. So presented after the jump is Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear:

And I also love that instead of doing a scaled-back, dour collection to be respectful of the doom-and-gloom economic climate, he did a 60-look, over-the-top love letter to 1980s New York. It was glittery and grimy, mismatched and neon, much like the city itself in Jacobs’ heyday of clubbing and excess. There were shiny party dresses with voluminous, knee-length skirts, pleated jeans and pants with tapered legs, and sculpted, layered frocks in bright colors and black. The models’ hair and makeup looked like it was out of a New Wave music video in the infant days of MTV, and like DVF, Jacobs also managed to convince me that I need some patterned leggings in my life. Except I like his way better. What he did is so brilliant that it would be a shame to break it up into sections and comment on it separately, so this post is going to be a bit different from the rest of my Fashion Week reports. The collection is a complete, self-contained statement about an era and a city that are long gone, and it was done with such clarity that you certainly don’t need me to walk you through it.

Marc Jacobs Large Leather Tote

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Marc Jacobs is, easily, one of my favorite bag designers of all time. I love all the wacky stuff Louis Vuitton has done under his creative leadership, and I love both of his signature labels. He lost me a bit last season, though…some of his bags were kinda misshapen, am I right? […]

Marc Jacobs Glitter Shoulder Bag

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

It is just not for me. The glistening purple or fuchsia leather with the glitter stud details seems more suited for a tween than myself. Or maybe I am just not cool enough to wear it? The Marc Jacobs Glitter Shoulder Bag rocks out the vibrant hues on this bag that was spotted in the […]

Marc Jacobs Love Story Zip Pouch
Trying to find last minute holiday gifts? Who else out there did not really start their shopping yet? My hand is raised way up high. Holiday shopping is hard for me. I don’t like giving gifts that will become another dust collector. As we grow older, many stocking stuffer gifts […]

Marc Jacobs Big Heart Zip Clutch
Love him or hate him, we all know Marc Jacobs. I tend to love this man, his designs, his ambition, his talent. There are misses, but between the Marc Jacobs Collection and the Marc by Marc Jacobs Collection (among others), this man has proven himself worthy of praise. Some pieces […]

Marc Jacobs Jen Shoulder Bag

Friday, November 7th, 2008

NYC was damp, grey, and a bit chilly the whole time we were there. I am not complaining, it was actually a welcomed change from the typical sunny blue skies and low 80’s in South Florida. But I couldn’t help but wonder if the weather made every New Yorker, who usually loves to wear black, […]
