Judith Leiber Parrot Clutch

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Judith Leiber Parrot Of course this clutch is from no one other than Judith Leiber. Love her designs or hate them, Leiber continues to bring us some different insects, birds, and animals in her famed crystal covered clutches. Her last bird we covered was an owl and her next endeavor is a parrot.

The Judith Leiber Parrot Clutch looks to be modeled after a Macaw, sporting red, blue, and yellow crystal embellishment. As we have said time and time again, this would be a heirloom piece which is not meant for every occasion and not even meant to be worn much. Some may argue, but these pieces are better suited on display.

Back to the parrot. I remember one of my first big art projects in school I drew a red, blue, and yellow Macaw along with a blue, green, and yellow Macaw. What young child does not like a brightly colored tropical bird? After looking at most Leiber pieces, I forget that they are intended wearable pieces. There is a gold chain clutch and a vanity mirror. Somehow this is already sold out at Net A Porter, but the parrot may fly back in. Via Net A Porter for $5695.

Judith Leiber Shimmering Python Clutch

Judith Leiber Shimmering Python Clutch

Judith Leiber is more known for her use of Swarvoski crystals in her evening bags and novelty pieces. And those pieces are not for everyone (take the owl clutch for example). But I am a huge fan of Judith Leiber and her pieces. There is something whimsical and playful about each piece that puts a smile on my face.

When I found the Judith Leiber Shimmering Python Clutch I was truly shocked. Is this really a Leiber piece? It is nothing like her crystal evening pieces, it is sleek, sophisticated and stunning. This is nothing like what we have come to expect from Leiber, and while I am caught off guard, I am staring at this clutch in amazement of its beauty. The dark indigo python offers a shimmer with a bronze hue. The flap top with tortoise ornament finishes off the clutch perfectly, without taking away from the natural beauty of the skin and simple design. Measurements are 4 1/4″H x 8″W x 1 1/2″D. Makes you re-think Judith Leiber, doesn’t it? Buy through Neiman Marcus for $1695.

Judith Leiber In the Wild Clutch

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

We all know that my taste can be, at times, questionable. Loose. On the tacky side. I like loud bags in general, probably because I wear so much freakin’ black and grey (even in the summer). Without a statement bag, I feel a little naked or under-dressed. Formal occasions are no exception - not that I have many formal occasions. Or any at all. But if I did, I’d surely want to carry some sort of ridiculous, bling-tastic, over-the-top, questionably tasteful super luxe evening bag. Which is exactly what the Judith Leiber In the Wild Clutch is.

Judith Leiber in the Wild Clutch

Because you see, my dears, it’s not just super sparkly. It’s super sparkly AND animal-print. At the same time. And that’s a stroke of quasi-tacky genius for which only the folks at Leiber, the home of the bedazzled watermelon bag, could be responsible. It’s combination of two of the tackiest bag idea inspires me to continue to find the awesomeness in all things moderately distasteful, and since I’m not cool enough to have anyplace to take it, I sort of want to have one just to sit it on top of my TV and admire it’s twinkling, zebra-ish glory. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $3895.

Judith Leiber Strawberry Pillbox

Judith Leiber Strawberry Pillbox

It is not that I am a superfluous spender, though at times I may be. The fact of the matter is I have always had an affinity toward miniatures. Truly, not sure why, but it is a fact. So the Minaudiere’s from Judith Leiber have always been a favorite of mine. I pop on her website or into the department store to see what itsy-bitsy pillbox will show next. Believe it or not I do not have a collection of them yet, which is shocking. Not a very usable piece, and let’s be honest it is not even a practical pillbox, but I love the Judith Leiber Strawberry Pillbox. There is no use other than looking at this Leiber piece as art, a collectible. And I would love a little collection of pillbox collectibles. Is that totally weird or does it seem fitting? Some people buy Lladro’s and I want Judith Leiber pillboxes, running around $600 a pop. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $595.

Judith Leiber Morning Dew Minaudiere and Christian Louboutin Glittered Pump

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Doesn’t everyone need a bit of glitter in their lives? I think so. When Megs sent me a link to the Christian Louboutin Glittered Pump this morning, I couldn’t NOT write about it. Despite the fact that I can’t wear heels (a long-ago broken ankle, painful story), I could be easily convinced to risk personal injury for these stunning shoes. They’re a complete fantasy - like ruby slippers for a grown-up, urban Dorothy - except instead of taking you back home when you click your heels, they take you to a fabulous party with an open bar.

And what pair of over-the-top shoes would be complete without a similarly fabulous bag? I think that, in this case, a solid-color bag in the same shade would be a bit much, and I generally warn against an exact handbag-shoe match in almost every case. Instead, go for the glitter theme in a small proportion. The Judith Leiber Morning Dew Minaudiere strikes just the right note; it’s glittery but avoids the dyed-to-match look that trying to match a powerful shoe can often create. The color of the shoes appears in an important part of the clutch, but it doesn’t fall into the matchy-matchy trap. You’ll have to really work it to pull off this much shine, but with a solid-color dress (call me crazy, but I’m thinking maybe the green in the clutch could be that solid color…it’d be a totally unexpected but would pull together really well with the bag) and limited jewelry, I’d totally work it. I’m not sure where I’d go, but by God, I’d find somewhere to wear it.

Christian Louboutin Glittered Pump can be bought through Neiman Marcus for $745. Buy the Judith Leiber Clutch through Neiman Marcus for $2395.

Judith Leiber Cresendo Bag

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Judith Leiber Cresendo BagSay what you want about Judith Leiber. Sure, the whole sparkly-squirrel-clutch thing is kind of weird, to say the least, and also kind of played out. They were making fun of it years ago on Sex and the City (remember the “Large Diamond Duck Ring” purse that Carrie got from Big?), and most cutting-edge fashionistas still thumb their noses at the brand in favor of things that are perceived as more subtle or modern. There’s one thing that no one can deny, however: the attention to detail paid when making a Leiber crystal-encrusted bag is second to none, and my favorite example as of late is the Judith Leiber Cresendo Bag. I didn’t even realize at first glance that the bag’s lace pattern was made entirely of crystals, but since it was a Leiber bag, I zoomed in to see if my eyes were deceiving me. And they were indeed - every bit of this intricate bag is covered in her signature Austrian crystals, creating the illusion of lace where there isn’t any. I’m a sucker for black and white patterns, and perhaps that’s why I can’t stop looking at this particular Leiber bag, even though they normally don’t catch my attention. For whatever reason, I think maybe I should give Leiber’s evening bags another look. Buy through Saks for $4195.

Judith Leiber Heart N Soul Bag

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Judith Leiber Heart N Soul Bag Every single person told me my wedding day would fly be. I listened to each of these people, believed them, but did not fully grasp this fact until it was the end of the wedding night with everyone on the dance floor chanting for one more song from the DJ. Just like that, my wedding day was over. I am super detail oriented so we took care of every tiny detail known to man. My mom and I had lists that had lists which had color-coordinated lists. I loved it all and I already miss it. I was lucky enough to carry the most amazing bag ever (read about it here), but I found another bag that would be perfect for a wedding day bag. Fact of the matter is that my Hermes bag was absolutely more for looks than for usability that day. I toted my larger Lambertson Truex bag into the bridal room with me which had all the necessities.

If you are going to be a bride, know of a bride, or just love loving, the Judith Leiber Heart N Soul Bag is perfectly cute and chic. Most Leiber bags are seen and used as art pieces, only to leave their spot in the closet a handful of times before being retired into handbag heaven. An Austrian crystal heart bag would ideally be used as a novelty piece, a handful of times at perfect occasions. One such occasion is a wedding and while I am still on the wedding kick I will profess my love of this bag. The interior is lined in metallic leather and there is a hidden chain strap if you want to wear the bag on your shoulder. Dimensions are 4″W X 4½”H X 2″D and this Leiber piece is exclusive to Saks. Buy for $2,195.

Celestina Cracked Mirror Clutch

Celestina Cracked Mirror Clutch
I’m not much of a tiny-little-clutch fan. I mean, I’ve got a big key ring. It doesn’t always fit. Add my cell phone, and the thing surely won’t close. I’m particularly not a fan of the shiny-tiny-little-clutches. Judith Leiber? No thanks. In a pop culture […]

Guilt free cake

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Finally, a cupcake that is not only fat free, but calorie free as well. Too good to be true, you say? Well, kind of, because tasty as it looks, I wouldn’t recommend eating it.

In “mocha” or “strawberry″, they′re the latest from the crystal palace of Judith Leiber (do you think Swarovski has a bigger customer?). A tiny swirl of appropriately hued crystals tops a decorative “wrapper″…silver fluted for the mocha, and a pale gold basket weave for the strawberry. I love that they′re youthful, but not juvenile like the Hello Kitty group. And they really brought a smile to my face…even after seeing the $4,295 price tag.
Usually I don’t really go for the Leiber Minaudieres, it’s more my mother’s thing. I may have to suggest she think abut picking up a snack for herself. She′s a good sharer.
Choose your flavor at Judith Leiber.
