PurseBlog dishes Spring Trends to Examiner.com

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Last week I not only had a fun interview at Starbucks about PurseBlog and Spring Trends, but also the interview happened to be with a high school friend. No need for nerves, it was so nice to sit down and chat with an old friend I haven’t seen since AP Literature (6th period senior year). Even with all of our catching up, Sara was able to sneak in her interview questions. We talked about Spring Trends, which in handbags are still tie-dye, perforated leather, and denim. Thanks Sara and Examiner.com!

PurseBlog is Teen Vogue’s Blogger of the Moment

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking with Phillip Picardi from Teen Vogue. Teen Vogue has named PurseBlog their Blogger of the Moment, and we could not be more honored or thrilled!

The interview will give you a look into why we started PurseBlog, how we started PurseBlog, and what our site is about. Teen Vogue has been a favorite magazine and website of mine for years, so being featured on their site has been nothing short of amazing. I also shared some of my favorite Savvy picks with Teen Vogue, including a good everyday bag, spring floral trend, bright color, and studded infusion.

Thank you to Teen Vogue for featuring us on your website and the interview! We will always be loyal fans. Make sure to read the article and comment on their post with your thoughts.

Featured as Glamour’s Purse Loving Bride

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Recently I was chosen to be one of Glamour’s Blogging Babes, which was quite an honor. This week Glamour wanted to focus on my wedding day accessories which was perfect timing as tomorrow is our one year anniversary. While most brides focus on their bouquet, many of my wedding day photos focused on my and my bridesmaids handbags.

As many of you know the story, my wedding day handbag was my Hermes Kelly Longue which was a surprise gift from many members of the PurseForum. It is still a gift that touches my heart and means so much to me.

Thanks to Jenny from Glamour for the feature! Read the full article here at Glamour Weddings.

Taylor Jacobson leaves Rachel Zoe

Taylor Jacobson leaves Rachel Zoe

We are a day late reporting the news, but we are reporting nonetheless. Taylor Jacobson, who worked for Rachel Zoe, is no longer with Rachel Zoe Inc as of yesterday. The news is conflicting whether Taylor was fired or quit. If you followed the Rachel Zoe Project (one of my many guilty pleasures), Taylor Jacobson continued to express her disdain for her job and where her job was going. Though the end of the season showed things looking up between Tay and Rachel, Taylor is gone.

Now comes the different reports. Taylor seemed excited for a new beginning on her Twitter page stating: “Today is an end of an era and a beginning of a new professional chapter. Looking forward to what the future brings…!!!”.

Fashionista reported that Taylor sent out an email saying: “After four amazing years at Rachel Zoe Corporation, I’m saddened and exhilarated at the same time to announce my departure. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to take the challenging leap to go off and style on my own.”

But what People is reporting says that Taylor was actually fired by Rachel Zoe (story here). What is the truth? I am not sure right now, but I am confident that Taylor will have success styling on her own. Taylor has made a name for herself before the RZP aired and only solidified her name being on the show. We wish Taylor the best in her new endeavors!

Miu Miu Ombre Paillette-Embellished Clutch

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Miu Miu Ombre Paillette-Embellished Clutch

Ombré is, admittedly, a really difficult thing to pull off. It has to be the correct color transition, done in the correct shades, and with the correct depth of color. I’m not sure why the good people at Miu Miu thought that this would be a good thing to try and do with giant sequins on a tiny bag, then, but I can tell you that the Miu Miu Ombré Paillette-Embellished Clutch does not work out as well as they probably intended.

It’s not that I don’t see what they were trying to do here – I do. But on a super squat bag, three colors of sequins does not ombré make. It just makes six rows (two of each) of similarly colored paillettes. The effect is completely lost because there’s no slow and gradual transition, and the paillettes themselves are all solid-colored. If they had had an ombré effect as well, things might have gone more smoothly.

Not only that, but the paillettes look rather sloppily attached and arranged. Forming a larger overall pattern with movable objects relies pretty heavily on the ability of the designer to keep them looking neat and organized, and that doesn’t really happen here. Plus, when a sequin moves out of turn, it reflects light different than the rest and further hinders the ability of this clutch to look ombré in the least. Overall, this is not an evening bag I would actually pay money to own. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $950.

Buzz Worthy: The Color Jade

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Jade Handbags

In the past few days the internet is a buzz about the latest must have nail polish, Chanel Jade Nail Polish. This polish was seen on the runway months ago and the speculation began if that color would be produced. It has been and is being sold online at Chanel now (better get it while you can).

The color Jade falls into the jewel hued family, but when we see jewel toned bags it is typically reds and purples and deep greens. A vivacious green will amp up your wardrobe and add the splash of color our browns and grays are yearning for. Here are some of our favorite Jade handbag picks, from Valentino to Kate Spade we have Jade Handbag options for you.

From top, left to right:

1. Dooney & Bourke Patent Medium Chiara Bag | $200 via Zappos

2. Kate Spade New York Coney Island Stevie Tote | $295 via Bloomingdale’s

3. Valentino Satin Bow Front Clutch | $895 via Net A Porter

4. Kate Spade Sullivan Street Sybella | $222 via Zappos

5. Chanel Jade Nail Polish | $25 via Chanel

6. Marc by Marc Jacobs Picnic Flat Hobo | $228 via Zappos

7. Linea Pelle Dylan Leather Hobo | $395 via Bloomingdale’s

Fendi Peekaboo Roll Bag

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Fendi Peekaboo Roll BagYesterday when we were talking about the skunk fur monstrosity that Fendi has chosen to perpetrate on the fashion world at large, several commenters mentioned that the bag itself might be cute, if it weren’t for the formerly stinky dead animal hanging precipitously from it. I applaud those commenters for trying to look beyond the obvious awfulness.

And as luck would have it, Fendi saw fit to make a non-skunkified version for our significantly increased viewing pleasure, and as it turns out, the Fendi Peekaboo Roll Bag is not nearly as terrible as its hairy predecessor.

Fendi Peekaboo Roll Bag

As it turns out, when you remove the fur, the bag is perfectly fine. It’s not dazzling, but it has the sort of blank-canvas appeal that means Fendi could turn it into a thousand different things, just like they did with their greatest success, the Baguette. I don’t think that this particular purse will get similarly launched into the fashion stratosphere, but they’ll probably find some fairly entertaining ways to adorn it, just like they did with the Peekaboo Satchel.

It’s non-offensive, the shape subscribes to one of the prevailing trends of the moment, and they could do some decent things with it, if they so chose. Looks like I’ve found a Fendi bag about which I don’t have a bunch of hater-y things to say. Surprising. Buy through Saks for $1460.

Fendi Skunk Fur Peekaboo Bag

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Fendi Skunk Fur Peekaboo BagA little insight into the life of a blogger: every morning, I get up, brush my teeth (well, usually), flop down at my computer and read through the morning’s news (both conventional and fashion-related) and the blogs that I myself enjoy reading. I also scroll through and pretend to read most of the email that I get overnight. When that’s done, I start gathering the bags that I’m going to write about for the day. I have my regular haunts to look through, and sometimes if those don’t work out, I try to find something tangentially related to handbags that I think everyone will like. Those are the tough days – as long as the subject matter comes easily, life is pretty much beautiful on my end.

And when I woke up today and saw the Fendi Skunk Fur Peekaboo Bag sitting in the New Arrivals section of Saks, I knew that today was going to be a good day.

Fendi Skunk Fur Peekaboo Bag

Ladies and gents, posts about these kinds of bags are my favorite to write. This bag is so terrifically awful that the words almost come too easily. Not only is it one of those puffball, shapeless fur bags that are so unfashionable, but it’s made out of a skunk. SKUNK.

What exactly is it about a skunk that says “luxurious” or “aspirational?” I don’t have a single positive association with the word, except for maybe Pepe Le Pew, the Frenchie cartoon skunk of my childhood, and I don’t want to see him made into a bag. And for anyone that has never smelled one of these things…the only way I can describe it is a combination of rotten eggs and hot garbage. Why anyone would want to be seen in public swinging a dead one from her arm is beyond my admittedly feeble levels of comprehension.

Even if the fur is soft, I can’t imagine it being a top seller. Maybe they don’t have skunks in Italy, and the designers were unfamiliar with how the animals smell before their pelts are removed and shipped to them. I don’t know, but it’s a smell that makes dogs sad, and dogs like to sniff all kinds of terrible things. I suppose that “terrible” is really the only way to describe this, after all. Buy through Saks for $1970.
